Sandra Kay Preble

August 30, 1955 — February 26, 2024

Bowling Green

Sandra Kay (Scarborough) Preble passed away on February 26, 2024, at the Hospice Center in Bowling Green, KY, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on August 30, 1955, in Erin, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Mary (Fletcher) Scarborough, and brothers Wayne Scarborough and Phillip Scarborough.

She is survived by husband Denny Preble of Bowling Green, Kentucky; son Randy (Emily) Preble of Marysville, Ohio; sisters Linda Futrell of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Maggie (Jim) Howell of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Aunt Jean Huffines of Cookeville, Tennessee; granddaughters Kaylee Preble and Hannah Preble of Marysville, Ohio; and loving nephews Steven Scarborough and Nicholas Scarborough of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Her family moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where Sandy attended Christian County High School and later received her GED. She received a degree in nursing from Clark State Nursing School in Springfield, Ohio and worked as a dental assistant, dental office manager, orthopedic technician, and chiropractic office manager, before retiring to Bowling Green, Kentucky in May 2014.

Sandy was active in her faith throughout her life. She and husband Denny taught Sunday School, grades three through six, and were junior and senior high school group leaders. Sandy and husband Denny have been active at Hillvue Heights Church since moving to Bowling Green in 2014. Her face was seldom without a smile, as she accomplished mundane housework with characteristic humming. She was known by her calm demeanor and wry humor, often wearing a button saying, “I’m going to beat this cancer or die trying.” Locked in a good-natured battle of wills with husband Denny, she would often pull her trump card, asking if he was going to “deny the dying girl”. She would also say, “Don’t cry for me”, since she had the opportunity to say “goodbye” face-to-face to those she loved. Knowing the source of her faith and the surety of her eternal repose, even amidst her cancer battle, she responded with her faith and a positive retort, “only by the grace of God do I stand”. Her favorite scriptures were Romans 5:1-5 and 1 Peter 5:12. These things, and many more, testified to her genuine faith.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 9 at 1pm at Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with visitation starting at 9am. The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed and can be accessed at www.hillvue.com. Burial will be Sunday, March 10 at 1pm at Fletcher Cemetery, 12891 Tennessee 13, Erin, Tennessee.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hillvue Heights Church Reach Fund.
