Karen Jean Dewhirst, 69, passed away on Sunday, April 6, in her home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. After fighting chronic pneumonia for some time, she slipped her mortal coils and entered her rest, where she is now abiding in the peaceful presence of the Lord Jesus, to whom she devoted her life.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on January 25, 1956 to Morgan and Joann Johnson, her family relocated to Ocala, Florida when she was 12. After graduating from Vanguard High School, she attended Florida College in Tampa, where she met the love of her life, Steven Robert Dewhirst. During their 49 years of marriage, Karen and Steve raised three biological and two adopted children, Amy, Katie, David, John, and Micah, and have been blessed with 10 grandchildren, Emma, Carpenter, Kate, Sophie, Jack, Jed, Lucy, Cash, and Evie.
Karen was a minister’s wife to the core, and even after Steve retired from preaching, she continued to zealously lead people to the Lord—even in the final weeks of her life. She was a devoted wife and mama, a mighty friend, a loyal mentor, a lighthearted companion, and a faithful servant of the King. Great grief follows her loss, but also a Godly legacy that her children and grandchildren will strive to carry forward. And if the singing in heaven wasn’t already perfect, we have every confidence she’d have the altos kicked into shape by the time we join her.
Friends are invited to join family for a celebration of Karen’s life on May 3 at Cone Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Visitation at 1:00pm and memorial service at 2:00pm.
