Joseph Hicks Jr.

George Hicks, Jr age 76 of Woodburn, formerly of Peoria, Illinois died Friday June 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. George was born March 8, 1942 in Peoria, IL a son of the late Joseph George Hicks, Sr and Helen Bernice Jennings Hicks. On March 29, 1974 he married Hazel Bennett in Decatur, Illinois. George proudly served his country with the U. S. Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. He then joined the U. S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1972. George had worked for International Paper for over 40 years. He was an outgoing family man who loved life and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years, he could be found playing bingo. George loved nature and the outdoors. especially bird watching. George lived life to the fullest loving his family and grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph G. and Helen B. Hicks, Sr, his sister: Joanne Hofmann, and his brother Richard Hicks. George is survived by his wife: Hazel Hicks of Woodburn, Kentucky, his three children: Terri (Chris) Dillard of Woodburn, Kentucky, Mark Hicks of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Tracie (Tony) Kennedy of Gallatin, Tennessee, his three grandchildren: Brandon Dillard, Madison Dillard, and Austin Kennedy along with other relatives and friends. The visitation for George will be held Wednesday June 13, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Cone Funeral Home (1510 Campbell Lane). Military Graveside services will be held Thursday June 14, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Middle Tenessee National Cemetery (7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, TN 37221) in Nashville, TN.
