John Anthony LeVasseur August 14, 1936 - October 29, 2024
John Anthony LeVasseur, 88, avid golfer and fisherman, went to be with his Lord on October 29, 2024 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.
John was born in Orono, Maine and was the 3rd of 5 boys born to Clarence and Avonne Lamb LeVasseur, who all predecease him. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War. Thanks to his intuitive thinking, he was put in charge of sensitive communications meaning that often his group was the first group in or out of an area but never close to battle. He learned to type communications and throughout the rest of his life, when people talked to him, his fingers twitched as if he was typing what they said. This served him well when he needed to use computers later in life.
While stationed in Rabat, Morocco he met and married Marie “Therese” Marmol. They were married for 64 years until her passing in 2020. Their first daughter, Monica Ann (Gill) was born in Morocco. John was transferred back to the US and stationed in Omaha, Nebraska where their 2nd daughter Patricia Lynn (Williams) was born. After that, John was transferred to England to fulfill the remaining months of his military duty, while his family lived in Maine where his third child Deborah Marie (Epstein) was born.
After leaving the military, John and family moved to Connecticut where he began his career at RR Donnelley printing company. He was proud to work for them as they printed nearly every magazine, book and phone book in the country. John worked his way up in their bindery and when the company decided to open a plant in Glasgow, Kentucky he was recruited to help start up the plant. John became a bindery foreman and eventually worked in the purchasing department until he retired in 1997. John loved woodworking and made large scale toys for his grandchildren which his wife Therese hand painted. He also liked making home improvements as well.
He and Therese moved to Lillian, Alabama in the Pensacola Bay and enjoyed being by the beach, golfing and fishing. In 2018, they returned to Bowling Green where he lived until he passed peacefully in his sleep on October 29, 2024.
John is survived by three daughters, Monica (Mike) Gill of Bowling Green, KY; Patty (Harry) Williams of Bowling Green, KY; and Deborah (Steve) Epstein of Irvine, CA; Grandchildren Kristen Emberton, Jonathan Gill, Jared Williams, and Justin Williams, all of Bowling Green, KY; Christeen Petersen of Trabuco Canyon, CA and Cody Epstein of Irvine, CA. John is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Ava Emberton and Ryker Blum of Bowling Green, KY and Olivia Petersen of Trabuco Canyon CA.
A private family ceremony will be held in California to honor John.
