James Lyons

Mr. James LeRoy Lyons entered into Heaven peacefully surrounded by his family on June 5, 2023. Born November 29, 1944, in Glasgow, KY to Mary Lois Jordan Lyons and Roger Hildreth Lyons. He attended Glasgow High School, University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University as well as Burnside Ott Flight School in Miami, Florida. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corps achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his service, he returned to Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he spent his career in the automotive industry. He loved cars, golf, crossword puzzles and playing the guitar. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Jolene Hume Lyons, his sons, Matthew Jordan Lyons (Cheryl) of Bowling Green, KY, Jeffrey Hume Lyons (Jordan) of Atlanta, GA, and his daughter, Ashley Ann Lyons Oaks (Mikey) of Hendersonville, TN. Also, grandchildren, Addison Oaks of Rosemary Beach, FL, Abigail Oaks of Hendersonville, TN, Brayden and Kelby Oaks of Hendersonville, TN, Charlotte and Harrison Lyons of Atlanta, GA, Reese and Avery Lyons of Bowling Green, KY. Brother, Jerry Lyons of Glasgow, KY and sister Mary Ann Lyons Gerth of Louisville, KY. The family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life service to be held at Oakland Baptist Church in Oakland, KY located at 410 Church Street on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 3:00 PM with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations be made to Oakland Baptist Church, The Shriners of Lexington, KY or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be provided, and donations can be given to the funeral director handling the service at the church.
