Frankie Gross

November 1, 1936 — April 21, 2024

Bowling Green, KY

Frankie Lee Gross, 87, of Richardsville passed away at The Hospice House in Bowling Green, KY on April 21, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Hilery and Thelma Hopper Gross, a daughter Rhonda Lee Gross, a son Frankie Lee Gross Jr., a brother Billie Gross (Pauline) and son-in-law Gary Miller (Tammy). He was a member of Mt.Pleasant Church of Christ. Frankie was a Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army.

The Great Depression left a lasting impact on him. He not only grew up in that era, he had to learn skills to support his family and himself. He was extremely resourceful in handling discarded metals and putting in long hours to extract things of value. He thought long term - always seeking to save for the future. He carefully planned for his wife to be cared for financially in the event of his absence. In 1999, he retired from Fruit of the Loom after 42 years of service in the shipping/receiving department. He never took vacation time and rarely missed work. He worked all extra hours given without complaint. The most he ever made was $10 per hour. He ran a wrecker service and had an established junkyard in Richardsville since 1965. He truly worked day and night to meet needs and achieve wants.

He will be fondly remembered as a man who knew hard work and had a desire for financial security. Frankie was an avid reader-especially with historical and biblical reads. Up until his death he absorbed an enormous amount of historical and biblical literature.

Frankie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janice Faye Milam Gross, 3 daughters that he was very proud of, Sonya Hayes (Todd), Tammy Miller, Tonya Gross all of Bowling Green and 5 precious grandchildren, Hannah Miller, Landon Miller (Christina) and Mason Miller of Bowling Green, Lauren Hayes Brown (Sjon-Paul) of Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Kristen Hayes Tharappel (Ashwin) of Franklin, TN, a brother Jimmie Gross (Sandy) and a sister Judy Gross Doolin (James) of Bowling Green, KY and his faithful little companion “Josie”.

The family has chosen a graveside service with burial at the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ Cemetery.
