Clifton Lewis Smith Clifton Lewis Smith, age 86, of Bowling Green passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Tri-Star Skyline Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Smitty was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Steven Smith. Smitty is survived by his precious wife of 66 years, Carlene Jennett Smith, two sons, Daniel Lewis (Sharon) and Dennis (Rhonda). He treasured his four grandchildren: Heather, Nathan, Chadwick Franklin Smith, and Emerald Catherine Smith. He is also survived by his brother and friend, Jim Smith (Wanda). Smitty was former owner of Smitty's Service for 25 years. Upon retirement, he chose the special career of being a bus driver for the Bowling Green Independent School District for 27 years, a position he cherished. Each student on his bus was known as ""precious cargo"" and he wanted each one to feel special. When he attended sporting events of his favorite Bowling Green High School Purple team, he was known to cheer loudly and proudly with the voice of ""Go Bubba. "" He was once recognized as a ""Hometown Hero"" because of his commitment to the students of BGISD. He was a proud member of Woodburn Baptist Church. At his church, he was known to be a member of the church's ""Liar's Bench. "" Smitty loved fishing and even fished several times in the previous two weeks prior to his death. Visitation for Smitty will be from 2:00 p. m. - 8:00 p. m. on Friday, November 25 at Woodburn Baptist Church and again on Saturday November 26 from 8:00 a. m. - 11:00 a. m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a. m. at Woodburn Baptist Church with burial to follow in Bowling Green Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the David S. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bowling Green High School or the Woodburn Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cone Funeral Home.
